Children In Need

At Palmers Cross, our Early Years department is run by a team of highly qualified and experienced Early Years Professionals, who want to work with you to support your child’s early development.
The department is led by myself, Mrs Harper, and I am available each morning from 8:30-8:45 if you wish to speak to me. In Nursery, there are two key workers, Mrs Kendall and Miss Peate, who will be working with nursery pupils on a daily basis. As key workers, Mrs Kendall and Miss Peate will be overseeing the nursery sessions, ensuring that the needs of the children are met on a daily basis.
Our Nursery sessions run each morning from 8:45am – 11:45am and 12:15 - 3:15. Doors open at 8:30 am for the morning session to provide some convenience for parents who are bringing older siblings into school. Parents may stay with their child until 8:45am or 12:30 if they wish to do so.

As you enter the Nursery with your child each day, we would encourage you to help your child to write their name in the large note pad provided, and to find their name to peg on the washing line. Once they have done this, they can then join their key worker to begin their morning activities.

At the end of Nursery can we please ask that you wait in the outdoor area and your child will be brought out to you. Key workers and myself will be available should you need to speak to us.
Pupils are able to wear their own clothes for school however; we would like the children to wear a yellow, early years, polo shirt. These are available to purchase from the school office. Optional navy jumpers are also available with the school’s logo on for the colder months.

Our topic in Nursery this term will be ‘All About Me’, where we will be learning about different families, naming common parts of the body and sharing what they like and don’t like. In literacy your child will be introduced to a variety sounds from the environment and begin to give meaning to marks. Your child will also begin to recite counting in 1’s up to 10 and begin to touch count in maths. The children will also enjoy circle times together where they will build relationships up with each other, talk about their likes and dislikes and share stories.

Each day the children will take part in outdoor learning. Please ensure your child has wellies in school for this and appropriate weather proof clothing.
PE will take place  on a fortnightly basis taught by Myself. Please ensure your child does not wear jewellery and that their PE kit is kept in Nursery for these days. A tracksuit and outdoor trainers are recommended for colder months.

Show and tell will take place each Friday to help build up your child’s communication and language skills. You will be informed of a theme for each week which your child will them be asked to bring into school something related to this theme to talk about during the Friday’s session.

If you do have any queries or concerns regarding your child, please feel free to contact us; we are only too happy to help.
We look forward to sharing our fun-filled nursery experience with you and your child.

Thank you for your support.
