Mrs Dudley

Welcome back to Year 2, we hope that you have had an enjoyable half term.

Children In Need

Our Autumn term is full of exciting learning opportunities in Year 2. In English, we will be learning lots of new writing skills while looking at different genres. We will also be concentrating on spelling, grammar and punctuation (SPaG).

In Maths, we will be recalling number bonds to 10, 20 and 100 while also securing children's knowledge of place value, addition and subtraction. In Science, we will be studying living things and their habitats and in Geography we will be learning about the countries of the UK and the 7 continents of the world. In Art we will be focusing on the collage work of Giuseppe Arcimboldo. In computing, the children will be learning about the parts of a computer and will be developing their word processing skills.  We will study animals in Science, the story of Guy Fawkes in History and in DT we will be learning about healthy eating and how to prepare different fruit and vegetables.

In Science we have been using our measuring skills to investigate if the largest child has the largest feet. Our results showed that this is not true.

Please ensure that children have an indoor and outdoor PE kit in school at all times. Should you wish, PE kit can be purchased from the school office. In the interests of safety, no jewellery, including earrings, should be worn on PE days.

Children in Year 2 receive Maths or English homework each Friday, to be returned the following Wednesday. In addition to this, children will be sent a project home linked with a different subject to complete across the half term. Class spellings, and separate phonics spellings, will be given out on a Friday and both will be tested on the following Friday. Children will be given a reading comprehension book to answer questions which are usually found inside the front cover of their reading book. Children should complete at least one comprehension per week, after they have read the whole book.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me; I will usually be available at the end of each day.
