Prevent

Prevent is one part of the government’s overall counter-terrorism strategy, CONTEST.

The aim of Prevent is to:

  • tackle the causes of radicalisation and respond to the ideological challenge of terrorism

  • safeguard and support those most at risk of radicalisation through early intervention

  • enable those who have already engaged in terrorism to disengage and rehabilitate

It is designed to reduce the risk from terrorism, so people can go about their daily lives freely and with confidence.

CONTEST is organised into 4 work strands

PREVENT : To stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism

PURSUE : To stop terrorist attacks

PROTECT: To strengthen our protection against terrorism attack

PREPARE: To mitigate the impact of terrorism

Prevent duty is everyone’s responsibility, it is part of our safeguarding duty, just like any other safeguarding concern and it would be reported in the same way. These concerns would then be assessed and actions taken in line with prevent referral if necessary.

We have a duty to NOTICE, CHECK and SHARE.

All Elston Hall Primary School staff complete training on the government’s anti-radicalisation strategy, Prevent, to enable them to identify children at risk of being drawn into terrorism and to challenge extremist ideas.
