Welcome to Reception! We hope you and your family have enjoyed a wonderful summer break.

In Reception, we are active learners. During the autumn term, our focus will be on helping the children settle into their new environment and routines, while beginning their learning journey. The children will be encouraged to develop their critical thinking skills, explore their own interests, and become confident, independent learners.

Learning in Reception takes place through a balance of teacher-led, teacher-guided and child-initiated activities, both indoors and outdoors. With this in mind, we kindly ask that your child brings a suitable coat to school each day, whatever the weather, so that they are always prepared for outdoor learning.

Each Tuesday, the children will spend time exploring the outdoor environment and taking part in woodland activities. For these sessions, please provide a pair of wellies in a clearly labelled carrier bag, which can be kept in school.

PE will take place every Tuesday and Wednesday. PE kits should remain in school until the end of each term. Please include both indoor and outdoor footwear, as well as a tracksuit for the colder months.

At Palmers Cross, we encourage independence from the very start. Please ensure that all clothing, shoes and bags are clearly labelled with your child’s name to help avoid any mix-ups.

We also operate an open-door policy. If you have any questions or messages, please do not hesitate to speak to a member of the Reception team. Staff will be available at the classroom doors from 8:30am in the morning and again at 3:15pm at the end of the school day.

We are excited for the year ahead and look forward to working with you to ensure it is a happy and successful one for your child.

Kind regards,
Miss Cooper
