Welcome back! We hope you had a relaxing and enjoyable summer holiday and that you are feeling refreshed and ready for a year full of fun and learning!
The children have a very busy year ahead with SATs, residential, transition days and much more!
In Maths, we will start the term by focusing on the important topic of place value, which includes areas such as rounding numbers, before moving onto the arithmetic topics as we head towards Christmas.
In English, there will be a great emphasis this term on getting the children to start their sentences in various ways. We have some lovely texts and animations in Year 6 to help us accomplish this, including with Lighthouse and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
We focus a lot on the teaching of Reading in Year 6, so that the children’s reading is as good as it can be before Secondary School. The children will be read to individually and will also have Whole Class Reading sessions once a week. In year 6, we will expect children to be reading regularly at home and write their reflections in their blue diaries after each reading session.
In our topic lessons, we will begin with the Vikings in History, a unit which focuses on the Viking invasion of York. In Art, they will be studying graffiti-style street art and creating designs, and Music will focus around singing.
Our PE sessions will take place on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Please ensure that children always have the correct PE in school at all times. In the interests of safety, no jewellery, including earrings, should be worn on PE days.
Our residential has already been booked to Laches Wood. We are so excited to create lasting memories for the children through this visit and more details will follow about this in the next couple of months.
