Year 5 Geography: Exploring Our Local Area

As part of our Geography learning, Year 5 went on a local walk to investigate potential sites for tree planting in our community.

We were pleased to discover that our local area already has plenty of trees, so there were not as many suitable spaces for additional planting as we had expected!

However, at the dead end of Coniston Road, we discovered an interesting area with bee houses, wild flowers and a couple of trees already growing. We also spotted a naturally overgrown area behind a fence that could have potential for further development.

This led to some fantastic discussions and ideas. Freddie suggested contacting the local council to find out who owns the land and exploring whether the area could be developed into a community garden or park where people could enjoy nature and spend time together.

It was wonderful to see the children thinking creatively about how we could improve our local environment and make a positive difference to our community!
